Friday 27th November 2015 – Annual General Meeting and Guest Speaker Peter Lake
Dear member of Mount Burnett Observatory,
this is to provide notice of the society’s Annual General Meeting to be held on:
Friday the 27th of November at 7pm
at:
Mount Burnett Observatory
420 Paternoster Road Mount Burnett
The meeting will be chaired by the Hon Brad Battin, MP for Gembrook. Following the meeting our special guest speaker will be our very own Peter Lake speaking on “Asteroids: The history, the process, and the recent pass by “Spooky Asteroid” 2015 TB145” (abstract below).
In accordance with rule 30 of our association rules the AGM must be held to
- Confirm the minutes of the previous AGM
- Receive the Committee’s report on the previous year’s activities
- Vote to accept the association financial statement for the club’s previous financial year (which ended June 30th 2015)
- Elect a new committee
- Confirm or vary the membership fee.
Committee reports will be made available to all members via email at least 48 hours before the meeting.

All members of the association are entitled to attend the meeting.
All members over the age of 15 are entitled to vote at the meeting.
Members over the age of 15 that cannot attend but wish to participate may appoint another MBO member to act as their proxy and vote on their behalf. Proxies must be appointed in writing (a proxy form is attached) and the form must be signed by the member appointing the proxy.
Proxy forms can either be handed in on the night to the secretary or emailed no later than 7pm Thursday the 26th of November.
Members are entitled to nominate for a position on the 2016 committee. Verbal nominations for committee positions will be accepted during the AGM. Committee positions to be filled are
- President
- Vice-President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- A number of Ordinary Committee Members (as determined at the AGM)

Peter Lake is an MBO member a Senior Customer Success Manager in the IT industry an Amateur Astronomer and gifted Tenor vocalist.
Asteroids: The history, the process, and the recent pass by “Spooky Asteroid” 2015 TB145
An entry level to advanced level look at the process of finding and tracking asteroids, how its done and why its important. Covering the image capture methods, blinking and stacking techniques, from beginner to advanced methods and working closely with the Minor Planet Center.
Detailing the various programs, tools, and collaborations available to amateur astronomers, the session culminates with the speaker’s own images of Asteroid 2015 TB145 a 460m which was discovered by Panstarrs Survey only three weeks before a very close approach at 1.3 Lunar distances.
