MBO Membership 

 Application:  Any person aged 15 and over is eligible to apply for membership of Mount Burnett Observatory Inc.  

Membership can commence one (1) week after payment is received. This ensures new members receive all communications including our weekly newsletter / weather reports etc. prior to attending.

 Benefits include:   

1. Weekly onsite member evenings at the observatory (some evenings are held online or as a dual event) 
2. Guest speakers from across the astronomical spectrum at various times throughout the year.  
3. A multi-faceted Young Observers program (including onsite events) 
4. Special interest groups such as the radio astronomy group and outreach 
5. Access to the MBO library 
6. Much more  

To apply, simply fill in the form, agree to abide by our rules and code of conduct, and pay your membership fee. ($60 for a single adult).  

*** NOTE: Members can also sign up additional family members. The first additional member aged 15 and over cost $ 30, each additional adult member is $25, and children under the age of 15 are free.  ***

*** Note: All children details must be added to your account at time of Sign up. Family members are defined as Immediate family, including parents and adult children living at the same address.

 
 A Person or Persons applying for membership to the Mount Burnett Observatory Inc. must agree to the following terms when submitting their application.  

1. Prior to attending any Members Night held onsite at the Mount Burnett Observatory, an application must be made to join as a member. 
2. As part of this application, a membership fee must be paid for the required amount for the type of membership requested. 
3. The membership fee must be confirmed as being paid prior to attending the site. 
4. Once confirmed, the proposed member may book a free ticket to attend an initial member’s night either by themselves or only to the numbers applied for in the application (Each Attending person must be booked in). 
5. No guests are to attend this first visit. 
6. It should be fully understood that MBO do not guarantee, that a new member attending on their first night will receive a full tour of the Observatory, but they will have the opportunity to meet and talk with other members. 
7. A New Members Orientation Night will be held once per month, this will most likely be run alongside an ordinary member’s night and be held on the 2nd or 3rd Friday or Saturday night of the month. Again, on this night the new member is not permitted to bring any guests to the site. This is so new members get our full attention, and we can answer questions and provide a tour of the facilities without interruption. 
8. On future visits to MBO, and once membership has been accepted and approved, as a full member you will be able to bring one guest to any members night at a cost of $20. Should you wish to bring additional guests, you will need prior permission from the committee or event coordinator to do so. This is solely to protect the purpose of the night as a member event. If you wish to bring a large group of guests, this would be considered as a private viewing, be held on a non-member night and subject to the appropriate booking and event fees. 
9. Any guest attending a member’s night on regular reoccurring occasions will be requested to become a member. Guest positions are reserved to introduce new people to MBO. 
10. Your official membership will begin from the time of approval by MBO Committee, and last until the 12-month anniversary from that date. 
11. Once approved as a full member, you will be required to agree with the Mount Burnett Observatory Inc. Rules of Association. All behavior must be polite and respectful to other members.
