Public Nights at the Observatory

Are you looking for an astronomy fix, or perhaps a special present for someone astro-minded? Look no further!

We have designed our Night at the Observatory as an introduction to astronomy for members of the public who would like to see a working observatory. Our enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides will lead you through a tour of the telescopes and of the universe they observe.

Observatory nights include viewing through the telescopes if the cloud permits. However, this being Melbourne, viewing can not be guaranteed.

Cost

Adults over 15 years of age $50

Children 5 to 14 years of age $25

Not suitable for children under 5 years

All money raised goes towards the maintenance and preservation of the Observatory.

Observatory visits are incredibly popular and the income from them supports vital maintenance, so our cancellation policy is strict.

Cancellation Policy

If MBO cancels a session all ticket holders will be given a full refund.

MBO will cancel a session for the following reason:

• If the fire danger is rated Extreme or Catastrophic or a Total Fire Ban is declared
• If forecast conditions are likely to make the session unsafe or unpleasant for conditions (for example if the observatory has no power)

Tickets cancelled by the purchaser more than 48hrs prior to the event will be refunded minus a $10 charge per ticket.

Tickets cancelled within 48 hours of the event cannot be refunded
