As of January 2022 MBO’s public onsite program has resumed with covid-19 protocols in place for all events.
Mount Burnett Observatory offers a range of experiences for individuals and groups.
Schools and community groups can book the observatory for a night. If you want to know more about a “Group Visit” please email us at email@example.com.
Individuals can also book the observatory for a night for what we call a “Private Viewing Session” with just you and your friends and two of our expert guides. More information on these sessions can be found here.
For individuals and small groups we recommend our “Night at the Observatory” sessions which are described here. These are yet to restart in 2022 as we are currently training a new cadre of volunteers to support the program. We anticipate running sessions in the second half of 2022.
Scouts and Schools
From 2022 schools will be able to subscribe to our online program to get access to a range of programs aimed at different age levels. For more details please as about a “Schools Program” at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Would you like to book the observatory for you and your family and friends for the night? MBO Private Viewings involve two trained guides taking you on an approximately two hour tour of the night sky using the 45 cm Jeffrey telescope. For more details email email@example.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get there?
Do you charge for parking?
Parking is free for members and visitors to our exclusive Outreach events. We do have limited space and parking is not suitable for buses and other large vehicles. If you are coming to any event, please contact us to discuss your parking requirements.
When can I visit the Observatory?
Members of the public need to either book a place on one of our Public Viewing nights or make a group booking. We also run occasional open days for which you don’t need to book.
There is great demand to come look through the telescopes and we are constantly looking at ways to satisfy this demand without overloading our wonderful volunteers.
MBO membership is $50 and is cost effective if you think you will come back more than once. There is also no waiting list for membership.
